xistra

Xistra (Spain)

Galicia - the most western part of Spain - was linked for centuries with Ireland by marine routes. Both sides are fertile on ancient music styles and irresistible dance rhythms - the Chieftains once came here to record their CD. Xistra delivers fresh and raw Galician folk music with bagpipes, tambourines, woodwind and accordion.

Muzykanci (Poland)
While Europeans are quick to learn about distant cultures, music of their own continent is still to be discovered. The innovative Polish band Muzykanci draws on rare traditions from the remote Carpathian valleys in Ukraine, Slovakia.

If Buena Vista Social Club discovered the golden era of Cuban music for mass audience, Cubanísimo play it with all the grace, charm and compassion. Cubanísimo - led by pianist Ricardo Alvarez - is considered to be one of the best contemporary salsa bands in Europe.

Alaap (India)
The Bhangra pioneers Alaap started in 1977, performing in the Punjabi communities in London. Under the influence of producer Deepak Khazanchi, Alaap's music went electric and ignited the Asian Underground revolution ten years before well known bands Fun>Da>Mental and Transglobal Underground.
Zuco 103 (Brazil, Netherlands, Germany)
Can you mix samba with DJ culture? Brazil's carnival with Berlin's Love Parade? Zuco do it on expert level, fusing the energy of a live drummer and keyboard magician with the stunning voice of Lilian Vieira from Rio de Janeiro.

Besh o´droM (Hungary)

"Daily consumption of Besh o'droM is highly recommended, no risk of overdose,"
(András Barnabás, writer)
"a splendid flight of wildness and joyous exuberance that rarely pauses for breath"

Baul Bishwa + Senses (India/Europe)

Bauls - wandering minstrels of Northern India - are deeply spiritual, yet rarely follow any fixed doctrine. Bapi Das Baul is a true innovator of Baul music. The musicians are all united by this "madness" (in the sense of inspiration) that is characteristic of Baul mystics. Bapi Das Baul started Senses as the "electronic" version of Baul Bishwa band.

Persian and Arabian musical powers crossfire on the Gulf seashore. The Teheran hitmakers feed on local styles, but nothing compares to the down-home Southern village bands from Bushehr region. Mahmoud Jahan has been singing these fast kicking tunes for past 20 years.
